Stranger in my Attic
With three pages of my draft finished, I decided to scrap it and start again. My topic was all over the place, beginning with trees, traveling to getting lost at age five, moving to teenage angst and ending up close to where I am now. It didn't flow and the more I wrote the messier it became.
I decided instead, to focus on running away. I called my dad and asked if he had ever run away from home. He giggled and said he had. He was sixteen when he got so mad at his dad for refusing to pay him for planting all the flax on the farm that he took off and went into town to pluck turkeys. He was gone for a week, returning only after threats of a police pick-up were made by his mother. It wasn't her idea, calling the police, but my grandpa had sat her down and told her exactly what to do. I imagine she was envious of my father who found a way and had the guts to get away from the drudgery of life on the farm.
Anyway, Dad and I talked about running away and the different ways people do it. My sister Chris used to run to the bathroom, staying there until she was good and ready to come out. Josh ran away when he was two, although he was just trying to get home from a night at grandma's house. Because the police picked him up however, he was classified as a runaway. My mother was frantic with worry.
Josh became the subject of my newly conceived draft. Josh at thirteen. Josh running away to New Hampshire with Irving Stigalt Baxter. I will always consider it a kidnapping, not a true running away story. That's how it happened from my perspective and that's how it will be told.
Perhaps this one will flow uncluttered from my head to the page and the class will read it without yawning or scratching their heads.
Time again for bed. Where does the day go?

No matter what you think I feel this was not a kidnapping. You have written this story to enhance your articles. As a writer you should know that peoples names should not be used the way you did. There could be a good lawsuit for this infraction. If you want to know what happened cantact the one you accuse or blame. He may be able to tell you a different story. Hope he doesn't see his name on this because these type of accusations are inflammatory.

This is the person you are writing about. First of all I have talked to my attorney about this matter. You are in the wrong for several reason. One of which you shall know the whole story and this was in no manner a kidnapping. I was driving toward our family condo and your brother which said he was of age asked if he could go. I said sure. When we got to the condo's I had gotten a call from my mother asking if I knew your brother. I asked why because I wanted to know if he had done something wrong. She told me the issue and I asked your brother a few questions. One of which was, Did you tell me your real age and the name you gave me was that correct"? He began to weep and said he didn't mean to lie and he didn't want to get me in trouble. So we contacted the authorities and they took him home. Your brother may have had his problems in the past and maybe now in the present. But either way I am sure the world has great things in store for him. But for you to announce a person's name and try to move forward on a mistake of someone else, that is a shame. I am not a published writer but a writer non the less. I would in no way disclose a persons name in fear of a law suit. I have told this story to many people about my adventure to Florida and misdirection to the west and landing me in Minn. and my travels back to the condo's. It was an adventure for the ages and yet a scary one too. Also, exploiting your brothers past for your gain is also a shame. Life has a lot of trial and tribulations and many people make mistakes and they will continue to make mistakes throughout life. But, as long as they learn from them and move forward that is what life is about. And, the only way you would have my full name is you looked it up again and again since I didn't put my middle name on anything until right before this story was written. Or, maybe you still had a piece of paper from my briefcase that your father picked the locks to. Either way, your brother had talked highly of you and you feel you must stoop this low to defame someone. Thank you for your time and patience.
Irving Stigalt Baxter is a pathological liar and felon. I know him all to well.
Look up Irving Stigalt Baxter on RI Judiciary Defendant search it's free. He has been in and out of prison since he was 19. Still does illegal things. He's a scary felon. I do believe it was a kidnapping
